About the Artist
I come from a background of fine art, having trained primarily in painting and textiles, but I now feel that my real creative journey started with a beginners class in a beautiful ceramics studio in Victoria, London. It was at that point I discovered my love for working with clay, and more specifically for hand throwing and using the pottery wheel to bring clay to life. Ever since then I've been progressing and experimenting with form and colour to create unique and functional ceramic art.
Creating art using 3D mediums has always intrigued me and I now specifically enjoy using clay and then glass glazing to make my works. I enjoy the whole process; starting with a ball of clay and ending up with whatever comes to mind- a bowl, mug, vase and so on. Then there's the excitement, and trepidation, of the first firing in the kiln followed by choosing and mixing glazes.
I'm very much influenced by traditional Japanese ceramics, particularly in their use of earthy tones. I love creating Japanese tea sets, its hard work but very rewarding and I plan to make more in the future. I also draw inspiration from nature, with some works reminiscent of seascapes and swirling waves, and other works investigating plant textures and shapes through surface detail or overall form. On this page I've put some photos of my work in progress, please take a look and see how I go about making the pieces you see for sale.

Here are some freshly thrown pieces in the studio, ready to be trimmed.

Below are videos of me demonstrating some of the various processes involved in creating my works, namely pulling up the walls of the clay while throwing and trimming the bone dry pieces ready to be fired in the kiln.

I've always loved exploring colour in my work but recently I'm enjoying the cooler tones, using light blues and greens as a base with darker blues seeping over the top. In other pieces I've found that I love the way light browns work with light blues, mimicking earth, ocean and sky.

When I've found a colour combination that I enjoy I tend to create many pieces within that aesthetic - exploring the glazes to create new and beautiful variations upon a colour scheme.

I'm always learning and improving with every clay I throw and glaze I use. I aim to always stay curious and inventive about the medium of clay and to create beautiful pieces for people to buy and love.
